people hold various opinions on the purpose of life. some think that they live for money, some for fame, some for fun. as to my opinion, i live for eperiences, for eperiences enable me to understand the true meaning of life.
the first reason of my belief is that money and fame are not adequate for leading a happy life. l see that many people obsessed with money and fame have no interest or time to enjoy family life, friend ship, sightseeing and things like that. money is important in life, but the money-only idea leads to a monotonous life. sometimes, etreme money seekers or fame followers violate the law and hurt others for that end. secondly, living just for fun is also unacceptable to me. humans are different from animals in that they have feelings and emotions. in variably avoiding sadness and anger only makes people dull and less sensible.
now i will come back to my pointliving for various eperiences, whether they are failures or successes, happiness or grieves. to learn from all the eperiences, to gain self-content in all the happenings, and to enjoy life from different angles, you will find your life worthwhile and meaningful.
three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love ,the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. these passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither, in a wayward course, over a deep ocean of anguish, reaching to the very verge of despair.
i have sought love, first, because it brings ecstasy -- ecstasy so great that i would often have sacrificed all the rest of life for a few hours of this joy. i have sought it , net, because it relieves loneliness-- that terrible loneliness in which one shivering consciousness looks over the rim of the world , into the cold unfathomable lifeless abyss. i have sought it, finally, because in the union of love i have seen, in a mystic miniature, the prefiguring vision of the heaven that saints and poets have imagined. this is what i sought, and though it might seem too good for human life, this is what -- at last -- i have found.
with equal passion i have sought knowledge. i have wished to understand the hearts of men. i have wished to know why the stars shine. and i have tried to apprehend the pythagorean power by which number holds sway above the flu. a little of this, but not much i have achieved.
love and knowlidge , so far as they were possible, led upward toward the heavens. but always pity brought me back to earth. echoes of cries of pain reverberate in my heart. children in famine, victims tortured by oppressors, helpless old people a hated burden to their sons, and the whole world of lonelines, poverty, and pain make a mockery of what human life should be. i long to alleviate the evil, but i cannot, and i too suffer.
this has been my life. i have found it worth living, and would gladly live it again if the chance were offered me.

Movies are popular because people are great watchers. They like to watch other peoples’ lives. They like to live vicariously. By going to movies, we can escape our own lives, share other emotions, and imagine ourselves as someone else.
Many of our lives are not as adventurous or glamorous as the lives in movies. We do not battle evil all day long and then go back to our luxurious penthouse apartment. We just go to school, do our homework, et, talk to our friends, and sleep. We need a little excitement in our lives and we find excitement at the movies.
Humans are very emotional people. We all like to cry and laugh. Fortunately, there is not much to cry about in my life so I like to go to sad movies where my heart strings can be tugged. I also like to go to comedies so I can laugh. I tend to cry and laugh more in a dark movie theater than I do in broad daylight.
Now I am a student, but I know someday I will be a scientist or a politician or a famous model. When I go to the movies, I can see my role models. I see how they act, what they wear, how they talk. I can prepare myself for the day when I will be like them.
Even though my life is quiet, I can go to the movies and watch someone else’s life. I can share their emotions and their everyday life. I wonder if they would like to share mine.

In 20xx, it has been said that the College Entrance Exam will be reformed by Education Ministry, people have waited for the outcome these days, it is a great thing for the students, because it will decide their future. Now, the reform has come out, in the future, there will be no separation between liberal art and science, this decision has good side and bad side.
On the one hand, it can improve students’ overall education. Since there will be no separation between liberal art and science, students need to pay attention to overall education, they must learn all the subjects. The overall education is popular in western education, the students take part in activity, making themselves learn more skills. I believe our education can catch up with western education.
On the other hand, everyone has their talent in some subjects, it is hard for student to learn all the subjects. For most girls, they are good at liberal art, while for boys, most of them are interested in science. If they have to learn all the subjects, they can’t focus their attention on their advantaged subjects.
In all, it needs time for students to get used to the reform, I believe it will do good to students’ future development.

I don’t think it’s a very good idea to borrow money from a friend. It can cause resentment and awkwardness in the relationship. How do you approach your friend without making him feel he has to do this for you? It’s unlikely he’ll feel as if he can turn you down. Can be turn you down without insulting you? Probably not.
How do you know whether your friend can afford to lend you the money? He may be embarrassed to admit he’s a little short of funds himself. Or he might not want to disappoint you. So he lends you the money and then he needs money, too.
There’s also the question of when you’ll pay back the loan. It’s awkward for your friend to ask for a deadline for repayment. Besides, if you’re short of funds, you may not be able to predict when you’ll pay him back. What about interest on the loan? If it’s a small amount of money, this doesn’t matter. However, if large funds are involved, and you won’t be paying it back for a while, should you offer to pay interest? Should your friend ask you to pay interest? All these issues can result in hurt feelings and can harm the friendship.
It’s possible, of course, that if you borrow money from a friend and pay it back in a timely fashion, this will create a special bond between the two of you. You’ll know that you can count on your friend when you need help. He’ll know you’re trustworthy.
However, more often than not, money issues between friends are an embarrassment. If you need money, it’ s better to go to a bank for a loan.

In the past decades, the development of new technology promotes the increasing need of students and other customers, Electronic dictionaries are becoming more and more popular。 Despite these electronic dictionaries may have some minor disadvantages, comparing to their advantages, people are willing to use them。
On the one hand, electronic dictionaries are extremely portable and light—weight, they can contain numerous words and messages, which may up to one million words, even more。 If a paper dictionary contains the same messages, it will be very large and heavy。
On the other hand, electronic dictionaries work very fast。 When we want to check the words, we can type the words, and then the words will be found in no more than three seconds, how convenient it is! Just work as the computer does, it also safe us a lot of time。 While with a paper dictionary, we have to go over the book, and then find the word amongst hundred words, this takes us a lot of time。 Electronic dictionaries make students work efficiently。
Electronic dictionaries also have disadvantages, such as sometimes they give the wrong message, sometimes the message is not overall。 But despite the flaws, people like to use electronic dictionaries, in the future, they are the students’ first choice。

What is personality ? How does knowledge about personality hlep us?First of all, let us take a look at what personality means. In general, when psychologists talk about personality, they are usually looking for things that make a person different from others or things that can explain how a person is not the same as others. last summer i went to one of the world’s most famous historical places, the forbidden city in beijing, china. it was the home of the emperors of the last two dynasties in china, the ming and qing dynasties.
the forbidden city was built in 1420. it stands in the center of the capital of china, beijing. it is surrounded by high walls with dragons on each wall. the palace contains over ten thousand rooms. it was where the emperors held their court sessions with their servants.
in mandarin, the forbidden city is called the purple forbidden city. the color of the palace itself is not purple however. the color purple is the symbolic color for the omnipotence of the great emperors of china. it was a place so sacred that the commoners could not even dream of ever going in. even some of the officials could not go in there if uninvited.
some of the largest festivals were also held at the forbidden city. during chinese new year, the emperor would invite all the members of his family and his officials to a banquet. the banquet was consisted of a hundred and eight dishes of chinese delicacies. it was a banquet so epensive that it could feed a commoner’s family for three generations.
right now the forbidden city serves as a historical site for tourists from all over the world. everyone can go in there. it is a museum containing invaluable chinese antiques and treasures.
i really learned a lot about the chinese culture and its history from this trip to the forbidden city. before the trip, i always dreamed about someday of going there to see all the beautiful buildings, the treasures, and the antiques in the forbidden city. it was like a dream come true to go on the trip and see the things that i have always wanted to see.

A fifteen-year-old boy was injured in a car accident when the minivan he was traveling in was hit by a pickup truck at an intersection. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital. The paramedics said that it appeared that the boy had nothing more serious than a broken left leg, but that internal injuries were always a possibility. The boy was conscious and alert. His mother, who was driving, was uninjured. She said that the truck appeared out of nowhere, and she thought she was going to die. She turned the steering wheel sharply to the left, and the truck hit her minivan on the passenger side.
The driver of the truck was a 50-year-old man who was unemployed and apparently had been drinking—police found 18 empty beer cans inside the truck. The man denied drinking, but he failed the police test for sobriety. When asked to touch his nose with his arms outstretched and eyes closed, he was unable to touch any part of his head.
The handcuffed man asked the police if they knew where “Mabel” was as he was put into the back seat of the police vehicle. The police asked him if Mabel was his wife. He said, “She's my dog, my dog! Where's my baby?” A dog with a collar, but no identification, minutes later, half a block away. The man was taken to the city jail and booked on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and on causing an accident

Choosing Friends
everybody has his friends. some people like to choose friends who are different from themselves while others prefer those who are similar to themselves. each of the choices has its advantages.
when people have friends similar to themselves, they and their friends can chat, play, and do things together harmoniously. the result is that they all feel relaed and can truly enjoy each others company.
when a guy has friends different from himself, the advantage he has is that he can benefit from the contacts with different people. his friends may be different from him in character, education, occupation, social status, or political and religious beliefs. from those friends, he can learn a lot of things that he has never eperienced himself and he can also enjoy being with thera when they know each other well.
comparing the advantages of both cases, i think that it would be better for me to have both kinds of friends …… some who are similar to me and some who are different from me. in this way, i can have the best of both worlds. for instance, when i want to rela or when i am too tired to be careful about my speech and manner, i can stay with those friends who are like me. but, when i feel like it, it is also possible for me to stay with those who are different from me and learn something new.

Harvard University (incorporated as The President and Fellows of Harvard College) is a private university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Founded in 1636, Harvard is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. Harvard consistently ranks among the best universities in the world. The institution was named Harvard College on March 13, 1639, after its first principal donor, a young clergyman named John Harvard. A graduate of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, John Harvard bequeathed about four hundred books in his will to form the basis of the college library collection, along with half his personal wealth worth several hundred pounds. The earliest known official reference to Harvard as a "university" rather than a "college" occurred in the new Massachusetts Constitution of 1780.In his 1869-1909 tenure as Harvard president, Charles William Eliot radically transformed Harvard into the pattern of the modern research university. Eliot's reforms included elective courses, small classes, and entrance examinations. The Harvard model influenced American education nationally, at both college and secondary levels. In 1999, Radcliffe College, initially founded as the "Harvard Annex" for women, merged formally with Harvard University, becoming the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.Harvard has the world's fourth largest library collection (after the British Library, the Library of Congress, and the French Bibliothèque Nationale), and the largest financial endowment of any academic institution, standing at $29.2 billion as of 20xx (which is also the second largest endowment for a non-profit organization, behind only the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation).
